Welcome . . . 

to community matters and matters of the community.  I am Michael Bug Deakin and I live in the City of Petaluma, California.  Petaluma is a most awesome community that grows in self in so many ways as a sustainable, forward-thinking, forward-doing collaboration of the whole.  It is a true example of the whole being so much greater than the sum of its parts.

 

This is a community with so much talent and so many people that think, do, and work outside the box - from our social and service organizations to all the people that constantly volunteer to a City Council that take the essence of sustainability and Climate Change sincerely.  We are at the forefront of teaching proactive climate community and . . . showing the way to embracing all species, including our own. 

 

The first video in this series is an interview i did with Elece Hempel - Executive Director of Petaluma People Services and Raine Howe, Executive Director of the Polly Klaas Foundation.

 

Elece Hempel and Petaluma People Services are a sterling example of true community infrastructure.  PPSC is an umbrella organization that houses 90 different programs from COTS, (Committee On The Shelterless) to Petaluma Bounty to Meals on Wheels, and that does not even scratch the surface.  They are constantly queried by communities far and wide about how to replicate what they do!

 

Raine Howe, of the Polly Klaas Foundation and the Polly Klaas Theater is another constant amazing source of inspiration and energetic involvement. Raine is passionate about her community and the mission of PKF. The Polly Klaas Foundation is a Petaluma, CA based, national nonprofit dedicated to the safety of all children, the recovery of missing children, and public policies that keep children safe in their communities.

 

This is a brief look at the first of many possibilities we have in store for you as Community Matters takes shape.  Changing the world one community at a time and manifesting Global Community!
